Navigating the Health Care System

How do I know if my doctor is part of a value-based care program?
The short answer: it’s not always obvious.
- If you have Medicare, you might get a notice in the mail letting you know your provider is part of an Accountable Care Organization (ACO).
- You can also look up your doctor on Medicare Care Compare to see if they participate in certain programs.
- If you have other insurance, your best bet is to ask your doctor’s office or your insurance provider directly.
What can you do to take a more active role in your care?
You don’t have to be an expert—small steps make a difference:
- Ask questions and make sure you understand your options
- Keep track of appointments, medications, and follow-ups
- Share important information with your care team
- Speak up about what matters to you
